Indian Television & Film Industry…My Experiences…Part Four

Good Morning !!!

I wanted to carry on from where I ended in the last post…but.. I am sipping my morning cup of tea…and that reminds me of the “Tea Strata” in the Indian TV & Film Industry… so let me share it with you..

In almost every production whether Television or Film, there is a person designated to make tea for the entire unit..and along with the spot boy(s) he runs a team whose job is to ensure everyone in the shooting unit (almost 50-100 people are always there on the sets depending upon the production budget and the shoot requirements.. including junior artistes) gets his/her cuppa of tea at scheduled intervals.

The common thread that runs amongst all productions (at least in those which i have been associated) is that …

there always exists a “Tea Strata”… meaning …three types of tea are prepared…the first one is for anyone in general…which has more water than milk and is invariably the worst to taste…and will come in plastic cups..

the 2nd type of tea which has more milk and is a lot more tastier…is for the unit members who have a close rapport with the spot boys..and the spot boys themselves and the production team members(usually 4 to 5 people)…

while the third type of tea is of the best quality… and will be served to you in drinking glasses and is meant for The Director, The Artistes (not the junior artistes), The Director Of Photography (Cinematographer), The Gaffer (The Head Of Lighting Department), The Art Director, The Producer (if its a film, and if he is present at the shoot) and The Channel People (if its a television series) and of course for anyone who the spot boy(s) thinks is of real value and worth, or close to the above categories of people…

I have tasted all the three types in the last 2 years..numerous times..and i assure you its a great morale booster …sipping that glass of tea…

I Have To Say Ba Bye Now…

Will Be Right Back.. In The Next Post…

Take Care…

The Free Spirit…
