A few days back when I was at a film song recording for Gulzaar Saab and Sukhvinder in the Empire Studios at Andheri, Gulzaar Saab amongst many other things also talked about how he had written the song “Jai Ho” initially for filmmaker Subhas Ghai, but the latter didn’t like it and later on the same song was taken up by Danny Boyle for his film “Slumdog Millionaire”.
Call it poetic justice or sheer coincidence, the same track was one amongst the music track that is perhaps going to usher in a new era for the Indian film industry, particularly Bollywood.
Kudos and heartiest congratulations to A.R.Rehman for being the first Indian to win the Golden Globe awards for his Original Music Score in Slumdog Millionaire.
Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire has virtually swept this year’s 66th Golden Globe Awards, bagging the Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and the Best Original Score awards. This surely is a great moment for India and the Indian film industry as the film was entirely shot in Mumbai with an all Indian cast and an Indian Co-Director.
It’s the time for …the “Audacity of a new hope”…a sincere hope that this event will mark as a new dawn for Bollywood Film Industry taking it to newer and greater heights and the day is not far away when Indian films will be pitted up against the best of world cinema at the International level and will be at par with International standards.
Truly great moments in Indian Film Industry have been really few and far between, one Satyajit Ray, one Lagaan, or one Taare Zameen Par decades apart from each other are not enough, until the majority of the industry thinks, acts and delivers like A.R.Rehman and Aamir Khan.
Meanwhile, Cheers to Slumdog Millionaire and the entire team and Indian Cinema ki…Jai Ho…
